A woman is found dead in an empty lot. The body is discovered to belong to the wife of Mr. Ellis (Claude Akins). Detectives Smith (Ben Alexander) and Friday (Jack Webb) take on the task to find the facts behind the death. Mr. Ellis drowns himself in liquor as a way to drink down his sorrow.
