With the Cold War in full swing, Detective Laurence gets caught up in an affair of espionage with the Soviet Union. The Russian ballets that perform at the Lille opera house harbor spies in their midst, and top secret microfilms have gone missing. To help the French secret services, Laurence agrees to disguise himself as a woman to replace the opera secretary who's been murdered. On her last film shoot, famous actress Blanche Dulac (played by Anne Consigny) narrowly escapes an attempt on her life. Detective Laurence is hellbent on discovering who's out to get the star. But the love of his life, Dr. Maillol, has just been killed in a plane crash. Laurence slips into depression and turns to drugs, readily available in the film milieu. He lets his two accomplices, Alice and Marlene, take over the case. Alice masquerades as the still photographer's assistant to investigate incognito. At the famous fashion house Paget, animosities never fade and the scissors are wickedly sharp. Patricia, the designer’s right-hand woman, is young and mentally vulnerable. When she is accused of murder, Laurence is unconvinced and sets out to discover who is framing the young artist. Alice Avril gets a job incognito in the clothing workshop.
