César Awards

The 1st César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, honoured the best French films of 1975 and took place on 3 April 1976 at the Palais des congrès in Paris. The ceremony was chaired by Jean Gabin and hosted by Pierre Tchernia. Le Vieux Fusil won the award for Best Film.

The 20th César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, honoured the best French films of 1994 and took place on 25 February 1995 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. The ceremony was chaired by Alain Delon and hosted by Jean-Claude Brialy and Pierre Tchernia. Wild Reeds won the award for Best Film.

The 42nd César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, was held on 24 February 2017, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris to honour the best French films of 2016. Jérôme Commandeur hosted the César Awards ceremony for the first time. The nominations were announced on 25 January 2017 by Academy president Alain Terzian and awards ceremony host Jérôme Commandeur. Divines and It's Only the End of the World won three awards each. Other films with multiple awards include Chocolat, My Life as a Courgette and Elle with two, with the latter film winning the Best Film honour.

The 43rd César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, took place on 2 March 2018, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris to honour the best French films of 2017.

The 44th César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, took place on 22 February 2019, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris to honour the best French films of 2018. Kristin Scott Thomas presided, and Kad Merad was the host. The ceremony was dedicated to Charles Aznavour, who died the previous October. For the first time the "César des Lycéens" will be awarded, in a separate ceremony on 13 March 2019, at the Sorbonne in Paris. This award is to be conferred on one of the seven nominees for Best Film and is selected by the students of three high schools.

The 45th César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, took place on 28 February 2020, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris to honour the best French films of 2019. Sandrine Kiberlain presided, and Florence Foresti as the host. Controversy and protests dogged the Academy in the months running up to the ceremony. The entire board of directors of the César Academy resigned in response to complaints over the opaqueness of the process and the powerlessness of normal Academy members. The other issue of protest was the 12 nominations received by Roman Polanski's J'Accuse (An Officer and a Spy), the most nominations of any eligible film. French feminists protested heaping honors on Polanski, who was convicted of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in California in 1978 but, according to Los Angeles courts, has not completed his sentence although this is disputed by Polanski's lawyers, and has additionally been accused of other incidents of rape.

The 46th César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, will take place on 12 March 2021 to honour the best French films of 2020. Marina Foïs will host the show for the first time.

La 48e cérémonie des César du cinéma, organisée par l'Académie des arts et techniques du cinéma, se déroule à Paris, au Palais de l'Olympia, le 24 février 2023, et récompense les films sortis en France en 2022.
