Space Battleship Yamato

The pilot film to Uchuu Senkan Yamato. It was created in August 1974 for Yomiuri Television executives but released to the public 16 years later on the Uchuu Senkan Yamato LD Box Set. The pilot was included on later releases for DVD/BD but they lack certain sounds/audio due to a copyright issue that came about in the time between the LD and DVD/BD releases.

When vile aliens known as the Gamilons wreak nuclear havoc on Earth, a group of survivors refit the Japanese battleship Yamato for intergalactic travel and set off on a mission to retrieve a neutralizer that will eradicate the radiation from Earth's atmosphere. After defeating Desler, the crew of the Yamato go their separate ways.The Earth is finally beginning to rebuild itself. Till Shima and Sanada pick up a transmission from a woman named Theresa about a white comet which destroys everything in its path. Carrying out mutiny, Yamato launches from Earth to face an enemy, against which even the Wave Motion Gun is of use

After the battle with the White Comet Empire, Yamato returns to Earth for repairs and gains some new crew members. Desler returns to his home planet to pay a final tribute but finds the fleet of the Black Nebula Empire stripmining the planet for ore. With the Black Nebula Empire targetting Iscandar next, Desler engages the help of Kodai and the Yamato crew to save Queen Starscha

The Black Nebula Empire attacks Earth and threatens to blow up the planet with a bomb they placed on Earth if counter attacked. Earths hopes rest on the Yamato crew as they go to the Black Nebula Planet and try to find a way to difuse the bomb before it's too late.

The arrival of Aquarius, a watery world that will flood all of the Earth, threatens humanity. The Yamato must attempt to stop this travesty that has been arranged by the Dinguil, another race that has lost their homeworld to the same planet.

Many a concert was held during the Yamato production years with fans turning out in droves to watch Hiroshi Miyagawa wave the wand and bring the spirit to life before their very eyes. Each event was a huge success, but throughout that time Yoshinobu Nishizaki (whose had produced live music performances long before he ever got into anime) was nurturing something else: a classic orchestral concert in the grand tradition. That dream came true on May 4, 1984, when The Yamato Grand Symphony was performed at Tokyo's Postal Life Insurance Hall by the NHK Symphony Orchestra. 1,800 fans from 12 to 24 years old were chosen by lottery to attend. Since it was recorded on video, formal dress was required. A non-Yamato overture was performed prior to Producer Nishizaki's opening remarks, but it was not recorded. The concert became one of three Yamato albums released on CD along with the first two symphonic suites in 1985. Numerous video releases also appeared in multiple formats. A 'trackdown' recording of the symphony was included in the 2004 Eternal Edition Premium box set which was remastered from a combination of video and tape sources. The most recent release was a DVD from Columbia in 2005.

In the year 2220 A.D., the Earth Federation launches a plan to evacuate Earth when discovering that a traveling black hole capable of destroying anything in its path is on course towards the solar system. As the people on Earth prepare to relocate to planet Amare, whose ruler offers refuge, the tyrants known as the "S.U.S. Empire" attack the first Earth evacuation fleet. After learning that his wife Capt. Yuki Mori-Kodai disappeared in the battle and that legendary space battleship Yamato has been fully rebuilt, Susumu Kodai accepts command of the ship as he intends to not only help humanity once again, but also find Yuki in the hope of helping his relationship with his daughter Miyuki, who puts the blame on him for her mother's disappearance. But in order to fullfil the mission, the Yamato must go through battles against the SUS Empire, who intend to spoil humanity's hopes of finding a new place to live in and turn Earth into energy for their own selfish needs.

In 2199, the crew of the space battleship Yamato set out on a journey to the planet Iscandar to acquire a device that can heal the ravaged Earth.
