This is the first, and most widely seen, of the Canadian IMAX films - a true classic that showed at Ontario Place for years. Perhaps the most widely-seen Canadian film, North of Superior, IMAX's tribute to the spectacular beauty of Ontario's northland, is as majestic and lyrical as the land itself. This award-winning film captures the quality of northern life as nature changes with the seasons. The film clIMAXes with a raging forest fire that figuratively engulfs the audience.

HawaiiIMAX has several technological offspring. OMNIMAX (now called IMAX Dome) which premiered in 1973, with, GARDEN ISLE. IMAX Dome (OMNIMAX) is identical to IMAX, but photographed with an extremely wide-angle lens, and projected onto a concave dome screen up to 30 meters in diameter, instead of a flat one. The IMAX DOME cinemas are physically very different to IMAX cinemas, but in practice, the two formats are largely interchangeable. IMAX DOME prints play IMAX theatres, and IMAX prints, with or without optical conversion for the concave, play IMAX DOME theatres.

The evolution of flying technology is portrayed in parallel with the story of the westward exploration of America and the rural-to-cosmopolitan transformation of American society.

The Great Rift Valley in Africa - a 4,000 mile crack in the earth's crust. It's the result of continental fracturing that began some 20 million years ago. Volcanic eruptions, such as the spectacular eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano featured in Genesis, are the results of a powerful tectonic process which are continually reshaping the earth's surface. "From that early moment when a supernova explodes in a blast of light and sound, the Genesis audience doesn't just have a front row seat at the creation of the world. The audience is inside the creation itself and made aware in the most forceful ways that creation is still continuing."

This half-hour tour around the world shows some of nature's and man's most awesome works: aerial views of thousands of stampeding wildebeest, a snow-covered mountain range, and the majesty of Chartres Cathedral and the Taj Mahal.
