Robert is telling jokes at the breakfast table. He is in the school nativity play and wants to get some practice in. Mark doesn't laugh. Michael finds a sink full of filthy plates at Lynn's. Lorraine was meant to do them. She is nasty to him. Jack has saved a dirty beck for Mark to clear out at Keller Bottom. Rachel has brought Jayesh home to meet the Sugdens. Kim and Neil are having a conversation in the stables. Nick walks in and makes them jump. Neil spills boiling hot coffee all over his trousers and has to drop them in front of Nick. Jayesh gets on well with everyone. Rachel shows him round the farm. Joe is depressed because everyone seems to be fixed up romantically except him.

It is the day of Michael's committal hearing. Elizabeth has taken time off work especially to accompany him, but Michael does not want any fuss. He asks her not to go. Jack is refusing to stop working and take a break. Mark thinks that handing in his notice was the best decision he has made. Amos has come to stay at Emmerdale Farm. Robert tries one of his jokes out on him, but Amos doesn't get it. Archie checks that his double date with Nick is still on, he has even arranged the babysitter. Michael is nervous about seeing Steve and the others in court. Sarah and Amos talk about Leonard. They are secretly arranging for him to come to the farm for Christmas. Eric is looking at swish cars to buy when Elizabeth shows him a newspaper advert for a small family saloon.

Amos lets slip to Jack that he and Sarah are planning a surprise for Annie at Christmas. Sarah just tells Jack that an old friend is coming to stay. She does not tell him that it is Leonard. Lorraine asks Michael what he gets up to at night. She is teasing him because she knows that he has been slipping out and breaking his curfew. Michael just says that he stays in his room and reads. Jack has been kept waiting on a country road by a tanker. When Frank Tate drives up, he takes his anger and frustration out on him. Amos tries to explain to Sarah how Annie must be feeling now about asking for money for her last few years. She puts over Jack's point of view.

Michael finds Lorraine stealing from Lynn's purse. The Spitfire breaks down. Jack has noticed that a couple of the doors have dropped in the farmhouse. Joe visits. He tells Jack that Frank is willing to cover the cost of the loss of his milk yield. Jack accepts begrudgingly. They both still think that Leonard is a conman.

Sarah makes him promise that he will be polite to Leonard for Annie's sake. The doors are still sticking at Emmerdale. Lorraine heard Michael go out again last night. Kim tries to involve Kathy in the running of the stables. Kathy is short with her and tells her to ask Neil's advice. Frank interrupts them. He is popping into Hotten, but is anxious not to miss Zoe ringing from the airport as she is due home. Kathy feels sorry for Frank as he is really looking forward to Christmas. Elizabeth is still not really talking to Eric and he gets annoyed. He admits that he will do basically anything for money and they row. Lindsay is keen on Archie. She has made a special effort to come over and see him. Michael visits his mum and asks about Christmas.

She tries to make Kathy feel sorry for her as she is torn between two men but Kathy has little sympathy. Peter Whiteley is overloaded with presents. Lorraine feels a bit neglected. Jack apologises to Leonard. He tries to explain that he was just offering advice and offers more if Jack needs it. Carol is opening her presents on her own, but then Lorraine visits. She has made Carol a jewellery box. Presents are unwrapped at Emmerdale. Annie has bought Sangeeta a brooch.

She encourages Neil to go to the Boxing Day Hunt at Robblesfield. Mark asks Sangeeta to go to the hunt with him. Rachel overhears and decides to go along and distribute her anti-hunt leaflets. Chris finds that Frank has passed out on the sofa. He removes some empty bottles, but Frank wakes up and gets violent. He pushes Chris out of the way and staggers out to his car.

Chris rings Zoe up for a progress report on Frank. She is fed up that she might have to spend New Year's Eve alone at Home Farm. Kathy is short with Chris and seems to have made plans to avoid him. Sarah asks Joe for all the gossip on Kim and Frank. She is busy trying to think of ways to make money for the farm - llamas, maggots. Michael sees Rachel in the village. She is waiting for Jayesh to arrive from Leeds. He declines her offer of a drink and watches them walk off together. Rachel still suspects Michael of being the prowler. Frank is sober. He asks Chris for a progress report on the businesses. Chris has nothing to tell him. Frank is obviously not going ahead with the partnership with Neil in the model farm now, but is still considering the driving range as a solo venture.
