In the very first sortie, Boris and Leonid violate the order and instead of defensive actions they engage in battle. As a result, many attack aircraft are killed, and young pilots are sent to the guardhouse. Political instructor Terentyev tries to seduce Evgenia by threatening her with a tribunal if she refuses. Ilya Bes stands up for the girl. Terentyev reveals his noble origins to the special agent Logoze, but does not receive support from him. Terentyev and Bes become enemies. The commander of the attack aircraft personally solicits that Boris and Leonid return to duty. This time the guys don't fail the flight. Boris shoots an unarmed German in the air.

The pilot is calling for help: he is running out of fuel. Headquarters Major Nefedov turns out to be the pilot. He's carrying a packet of intelligence gathered along the front lines. He tells Eugenia that her fiancé found himself a PW - a field-field wife. Terentyev finds out about this and, after a second proposal to become his mistress, tries to rape Zhenya. Finding himself in the rear of the Germans, Bes meets his grandfather on the road, who hides him in a haystack and brings him to a village captured by the Germans. This is how the Bes is captured. Bes is captured with one of the Khivi (the so-called "volunteer assistants" of the Wehrmacht, recruited from the local population in the occupied territories of the USSR and Soviet). Run away from the village. The Germans are chasing them. Khivi is killed, but Bes manages to escape. In a depressed state, Lydia leaves the hospital - she was forbidden to return to the regiment. In her native village, a pilot with an order on her chest arrives at the plant, where she makes a speech at a rally. Lydia's mother complains that everyone perceives her daughter as a soldier's wife, a field-field wife. The demon is being watched by Soviet soldiers. When he explains who he is, they contact the air regiment and send him there for investigation. Terentyev claims that Bes was deliberately lost and sold himself to the Germans. Evgenia persuades the regiment commander to let her go to the square where his plane fell in order to find Ilya's military ID, thereby proving his innocence.
