Directed by Ken Kwapis, the script closely matches what eventually aired, centering on a depressed middle-aged ad exec who begins to fear lasting happiness is out of reach after getting a younger new boss. Kathryn Hahn reprised her role as Lee Payne, but several roles were recast—Ellen Barkin replaced Parker Posey as the headhunter, and Bradley Whitford stepped in for Rhys Ifans as the boss.
