Ben joins Dr Grant Hopcraft, one of the world's leading researchers of wildebeest, to tag four wildebeest to monitor their individual progress on the migration via a GPS. He also takes a hot-air balloon ride, camps out among the wildebeest and lions, and meets members of the Maasai and Hadzabe tribes.

As the rains arrive, the million strong wildebeest herd divides in two and heads west, while Ben meets rangers on a private reserve who are pioneering a strict anti-poaching regime.

As December arrives, the adventurer witnesses the final leg of the epic migration as the wildebeest, who by now have now travelled 500km through the Serengeti and Maasai Mara, loop back into Tanzania. It is said that for the Maasai tribe warriors to prove their manhood, they must slay a lion. However, the killing of lions is illegal in the Serengeti, so Ben investigates the claim further by revisiting Maasai family he met earlier in the series.
