Welcome to ALTER: Horror Through History. This is the first in a weekly series of classic horror movie viewing parties. With each installment we will be introducing a famous film from the horror canon and discussing how it's still influential today.

This week we’ll be showing THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME, a 1932 horror thriller from producers Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper — the duo behind the original KING KONG. THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME remains one of the most influential horror stories, as seen with the literal remake by Quibi (THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME), Radio Silence's sly homage with READY OR NOT, or the highly controversial re-imagining with the recently released THE HUNT.

We are pleased to introduce the cinematic treat that is William Castle’s 1959 House on Haunted Hill. In this film, horror icon Vincent Price plays a millionaire throwing a “party” in a haunted house (go figure) for his wife. However, instead of inviting all of their friends, he picks a group of people to pay $10,000 each if they can stand being locked inside the home for one night. You know, just casual party games. A classic in B-movie horror and one of Vincent Price's most infamous roles, we guarantee you'll love this wacky horror film.

This week we’re watching George A Romero’s seminal classic Night of the Living Dead, which made zombies a household name. Night of the Living Dead revolutionized the horror film, and Romero would go on to become one of the most influential horror directors of all time. He released five more entries in the Dead series, including Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead.

Welcome to week five of Horror Through History. This week we present the giallo masterpiece DEEP RED, from the director of the original SUSPIRIA, Dario Argento. Fun fact: John Carpenter notes that Argento’s earlier films highly influenced him. This is emphasized in a little slasher you might be familiar with, HALLOWEEN. Take note of the parallels in the openings scenes while watching DEEP RED. Other works that might interest you if you enjoy the film is KNIFE + HEART, RAW, SCREAM, DEAD SILENCE, ANNABELLE, and well… any other Dario Argento film.

Hello everyone, welcome to the final week of the first season’s Horror Through History. This week we’re not showing an individual film, but rather a collection of iconic horror shorts. As you all know, ALTER’s primary focus on our channels is giving a platform for short films - as we believe that some of the most exciting new voices in filmmaking get their start innovating within the short medium. The 4 films we are showing today are no different, featuring a surrealist nightmare from Luis Buñuel and the massively influential Meshes of the Afternoon. Even though all four films a tad experimental in their own right, and cover the 20s, 40s, and the 80s, these films paint an expansive portrait of how short films have always challenged the safe and mainstream nature of Hollywood filmmaking. Turning 100 years old this year - and what was called "the first horror film" from Roger Ebert - we present Robert WIene's THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI as the first film in our second season of Horror Through History. "In one of the most influential films of the silent era, Werner Krauss plays the title character, a sinister hypnotist who travels the carnival circuit displaying a somnambulist named Cesare (Conrad Veidt). In one tiny German town, a series of murders coincides with Caligari's visit. When the best friend of hero Francis (Friedrich Feher) is killed, the deed seems to be the outgrowth of a romantic rivalry over the hand of the lovely Jane (Lil Dagover). Francis suspects Caligari, but he is ignored by the police. Investigating on his own, Francis seemingly discovers that Caligari has been ordering the somnambulist to commit the murders, but the story eventually takes a more surprising direction. Caligari's Expressionist style ultimately led to the dark shadows and sharp angles of the film noir urban crime dramas of the 1940s, many of which were directed by such German émigrés as Billy Wilder and Robert Siodmak." - Rotten Tomatoes

Welcome to Horror Through History Season 2. This week we’ll be showing Tod Browning’s 1931 DRACULA! “I Am Drac-u-la”, or so it goes in Bela Lugosi’s infamous character introduction. While our first Horror Through History film NOSFERATU was an unofficial take on Dracula, this film is the fully approved, Universal Monsters intro to the character. From the slow cadence of his voice, to the slicked back hair, the transformation to the bat, and possible death from a stake to the heart, Bela Lugosi’s Dracula remains the most iconic incarnation of the vampire. As with last week, stick around till the end of the film, because we’ll be posing a question for you all to answer in the comments! Without any further ado, we present DRACULA.

Welcome back to Horror Through History! This week I’ll be discussing George Melford’s 1931 Spanish-language version of Dracula. As you might notice, Last week’s DRACULA may be eerily similar in some ways- that’s because they were filmed on the same sets just at night after Tod Browning’s version had finished shooting. Welcome to the fourth week of the second season of ALTER's Horror Through History! This week we'll be showing the underrated French horror gem Georges Clouzot's Les Diaboliques.

For the final week of Horror Through History (for now), we wanted to do a proper send off with one of the most iconic faces of horror: Vincent Price. This is the second Price-starring film we've shown in our Horror Through History series - House on Haunted Hill being the first. And while House on Haunted Hill might be the more remembered film, The Last Man on Earth is arguably the better film, featuring a less-campy-than-normal performance from Price.

Episode 1 "Werewolves Are Real" : The PSI team gets their first non-ghost call. The team heads to a local farm where a worker has been mauled. It's gruesome and more than they bargained for. Episode 2 "Exorcismed!": Sarah's elderly family friend, Mr. Wooverfelt, calls on Sarah for help because Mrs. Wooverfelt has been acting strangely. Turns out Mrs. Wooverfelt is possessed by an evil Demon. The PSI team is faced with its first encounter from Hell. Paranormal Solutions Inc. is expanding! Episode 3 "The Leprechaun of Mobile Alabama" Easily the stupidest case they've ever said yes to but they need the money. There's no way that the horribly drawn Leprechaun from the viral YouTube video could actually exist, right? Episode 4 "Sasquatch Is Your BC Bud" After receiving several calls to debunk the Sasquatch video taken in Squamish, B.C. in early 2014, the team heads on expedition into the mountains. Episode 5 "The Internet Killed The Video Store" The PSI team sets-up shop in a old abandoned video store on the edge of town known for it's famous hauntings. They decide to spend the weekend there, with a more elaborate video set-up since Jared is pitching PSI as a reality TV show. Episode 6 "Only YOU Can Prevent Zombie Attacks" The team decides to take a break and go camping. Jared was hoping to rekindle the romance with Sarah on this trip, but once again, Dax is an unwelcome guest. Everything is sidelined by an impending zombie apocalypse. Episode 7 "Happy Endings and New Beginnings" Sarah's regularly scheduled Paranormal Trauma Support group meeting is interrupted by Detective Watts and Snider. The sting is then promptly interrupted by a series of tentacles. Episode 8 "Not All Abductions are the Good Kind" Darryn is angry after learning from Jared in that his whole family has been abducted by aliens (except for him). Darryn sets out alone to a recent alien sighting location in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of being abducted. Paranormal Solutions Inc. is expanding!
