Onkel X is about to leave for stardom in Hollywood and Grandma has been ordered to pack his suitcase, leading her to leave the stove on, on which Grandpa burns both his hands. A handyman named Manus Franssen arrives to fix several odd jobs around the house and Arend Vogel recognizes his name as that of a jail-bird. This gets the entire family into a panic, especially when things go missing.

Tante Til is feeling bored and extremely lonely now that Onkel X is shooting a picture in Hollywood. Arend Vogel is not looking forward to having diner with his father. Cousin Herbert has fallen in love with Aaf Klaver and as such is feeling very poetic.

The day Cousin Herbert comes over to introduce his fiancé Aaf Klaver, Grandma chooses to clean the house thoroughly. This leads to Aaf receiving a rather unflattering first look at the entire family. The rest of the Knots family is baffled when it turns out Miss Klaver is more interested in 'coaching' Herberts hereto unheard of political career than being all lovey dovey.
