She advised owner Margaret Ashwood to take a harder stance and stop treating the hotel like an extension of her home and the paying guests like family, and also gave the dated decor a revamp. Two years on, Alex is keeping her fingers crossed that she will not have to get tough with Margaret again and that the hotel is making a profit.
