They break in while she's out, but are startled when the retired school teacher returns home while they are still in her house. The trio kidnaps the elderly woman, bind her with duct tape, and force her into the trunk of her own car. They then drive around the town of Palestine, TX, stopping to show her off to friends along the way. On the night of August 9, 1991, two men break into the Buddhist temple on the outskirts of Phoenix, AZ and murder all 9 people inside. The motive appears to be robbery. Based on a tip, a special task force quickly arrests four Tucson, AZ men and charges them with the murders. But ballistics tests on a confiscated .22 rifle connect the murders to two teenagers - Jonathan Doody and Alessandro "Alex" Garcia. While being questioned, Garcia admits he and Doody are the real killers.
