Tommy Butler's home is to be demolished and he is moving in with his daughter. On the first day, he fights with his son in law, and his daughter won't let him do anything to help around the house. He decides to go live with his pal Wally. While he is waiting for the bus, he meets Colin, a young tearaway who asks a lot of questions about his stuffed parrot. Tommy gets to Wally's and finds there is no room for him, so he sneaks back into his daughters house before they know he is gone. ** Same story as the pilot, and a few of the actors have been changed. Colin has been replaced by Charlie, and Tommy's daughter has been replaced **

Tommy tells Charlie that he used to work on the railroad and takes him down to the train yards to show him around. When a driver goes home sick and the train can't continue, Charlie volunteers Tommy to drive it. Tommy forgot to mention that he used to work in the luggage department.

It's Charlie's 12th birthday and his mother thinks his guest is another 12 year old boy. When Tommy shows up, she is shocked. Charlie's father does not send him a present so Tommy makes up for it.

Charlie reads in the newspaper that "Mr X" has won the pools. Tommy tells him that he would like a female companion. Charlie tells the ice cream lady Daisy that Tommy is Mr. X . She goes after his money, and then other women follow.

Vera and Brian are going on vacation and Tommy has bought a new cardigan. Brian has to tell him he is not invited to go. Off they go and Tommy causes all kinds of chaos at home alone.

Brian finds out Harry has been drinking his whiskey and is furious. He confronts Harry and he threatens to leave for Sheffield (again). Brian finally calls him on it.
