Some of the highest-ranking officials of the Third Reich were keen on esotericism and the occult. This was notably the case with Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS. In addition to being a fanatic of Adolf Hitler, Himmler was steeped in racist beliefs. He was obsessed with the purity of the Aryan race.
To prove the superiority of the Aryans, he was prepared to do anything, including distorting science. In 1935, to provide a scientific basis for Nazi ideology, he founded the Ahnenerbe, a highly unusual research institute. Anthropologists, raciologists, doctors, and archaeologists served the Nazis. From the quest for Thor's hammer to the search for Atlantis, nothing stopped Nazi researchers. And just like its creator, the Ahnenerbe descended into the criminal madness of the Third Reich. Discover the occult history of Nazi “science.”
