This disease has only been diagnosed in four cases in the world. The name is an acronym of the four primary aspects of the disorder: Macrosomia (excessive birth weight), Obesity, Macrocephaly (excessive head size) and Ocular abnormalities.

Although not very well known, it is estimated that there are more than 500,000 people in North America alone that have the disease. This is more than Muscular Dystrophy, Huntington's Disease, and Lou Gehrig's disease combined.
