Anne gets a couple of families to lay bare their finances to each other. The Addicots are a hard-working family that earn around £25,000 a year whilst the Stevens family are a middle class family who earn around £100,000 a year.

Anne attempts to find out whether we can spend our way to happiness as she meets billionaire John Caudwell, one of the richest men in the country. She finds out that spending power can't guarantee happiness, but not being able to spend can have a devastating effect on people, as she finds out when she helps out at one of the country’s 800 food banks.
