Tom and Twigs want to learn red magic with a mysterious new guru called Muru, but to do it they need a red crystal which can only be found in the deepest, darkest caverns. Squirmtum guides them, but when Zigzoo's shiny new Mega Torch 4000 breaks, everyone is plunged into darkness! To make things worse, Squirmtum's friend Flicker vanishes, captured by the Mushas who want to use him to find their own red crystal. Will they ever get out of the caverns? Will Tom ever learn red magic? And where is Muru?

During Tom and Twigs's red magic lesson, Muru is called away unexpectedly, and a meddling Twigs manages to break his magic stick, which then comes to life and starts flying around Treetopolis! Tom and Twigs chase it all the way to the Dead Branch Desert, where they find a whole bush of magic sticks. But instead of taking just one, Twigs gets greedy and grabs more - causing him to start turning into wood! Will Tom be able to save the day and Twigs with red magic? And what will Muru do when he finds out about his stick?

When Tom and Twigs invite cave-dwelling, light-sensitive dark sprites Rootle and Shade to come with them above ground, they use a Shadowbot to shield them from the light. Things go well until the machine runs out of power. As the shadow starts to shrink, the dark sprites panic. Tom uses BWM to power it back up, but then Twigs puts a red crystal into the Shadowbot's power cell, causing it to run off and spread permanent darkness wherever it goes. It's up to Tom to stop it, and quickly!

During a tussle, Chezz and Twigs break a strange object belonging to Rickety, and Rickety sets them the Ranger challenge of finding all the bits to rebuild it. But despite Tom's best efforts, Chezz and Twigs keep bickering. They decide to split up and find a different bit each, but disaster strikes and Tom has to rescue them with Big World Magic. They finally realise it's best if they all work together to find the pieces.

Things don't go too well and, in the process, Whizzy gets mized up with Whiffy, an identical looking but badly behaved buggle owned by the Mushas. Today the Wonderful Wish Fruit ripens and there is a race because whoever picks the first one, chooses what all the fruit will taste like. Tom and Twigs borrow the Turbo-Rantula. They nearly end up in a chasm but Tom rescues them with the 'Elephant Power' spell but then the Turbo-Rantula overheats and breaks down. When they finally arrive at the fruit they find everyone stuck to the plant's leaves. Can Tom save the day, and who will get to choose what the Wonderful Wish Fruit tastes like?
Tom is unable to master the Rhino Charge spell and in order to help him understand the spirit of animals, Muru suggests he and Twigs accompany Ariela as she treks to the Red Rock Canyon

Tom is unable to master the Rhino Charge spell and in order to help him understand the spirit of animals, Muru suggests he and Twigs accompany Ariela as she treks to the Red Rock Canyon with her beetles to find sparkle bark to cure their fungus.
A sawdust storm soon blows up and Tom has to use the 'Digging Desert Mole' spell to rescue Ariela and Twigs, then the Mushas cause a rockslide trapping some of the beetles and Tom has to try and master the 'Rhino Charge' spell in order to save the day.

Rickety's granddaughter Racquette is visiting Treetopolis and Rickety is determined to stop her doing anything too exciting. She talks him into letting Tom and Twigs show her around and they start at Ariela's Ranch, where Racquette accidentally causes Teabiscuit to stampede.
Then she triggers a jittery pea avalanche that threatens the Castle and finally she causes the cavern coaster to hurtle towards the bottomless pit with her and Twigs onboard. Is she trying too hard?

Muru sets Tom and Twigs a quest to find something really, really, really amazing. First they have to navigate through a maze, but while doing this Twigs accidentally triggers a runaway grumbleberry and has to be rescued by Tom using the 'Speedy Cheetah' spell.
They then find a dried up plant before having to flee some out-of-control spikes triggered by the Mushas. Finally they end up trapped in a cavern - will they ever get out and find out about the really, really, really amazing thing?
