Year 28 BC, Tarraco, Hispania. Caesar Augustus settled in the Iberian Peninsula to follow the conquests of the last Iberian redoubts. Pompeu, his doctor, in company of his whole family, must move from Rome to Tarraco to take care of the emperor's health. On the voyage, the ship carrying utensils and slaves disappears. The batch of Iberian slaves that Pompeu bought seems like a representation of human misery. In the central courtyard of the house begins the work of washing them, cutting their hair and nails.
