Rüdiger Bunz is the absolute average guy. He is married to his childhood sweetheart Silvia and works as a salesman in a small electronics store. Service is still very important to him, and he sometimes repairs electrical appliances as a gesture of goodwill, much to the chagrin of his boss. But Rüdiger's normal life changes abruptly when he is discovered by chance on the street for a commercial. Suddenly Rüdiger is what almost everyone wants to be these days: famous. And suddenly everything is different: Rüdiger's ambitious sales colleague Jürgen desperately wants to become his manager, his wife would like to have a new car, and the advertising agency expects full commitment from him. It's really only a matter of time before Rüdiger is thrown completely off track...

Like every year, Rüdiger wants to cook his own lamb goulash for his wife's birthday. But Silvia lets it slip that she had expected more from her now famous husband this year. So, on Jürgen's advice, Rüdiger reserves a table at the restaurant of the famous TV chef Alfie Ziegler (Georg Friedrich). But the reservation is lost, and all of Rüdiger's attempts to get a table through his new celebrity fail. The evening almost ends in a fast food chain, where Rüdiger is recognized. Not only by the staff, but surprisingly also by Alfie Ziegler. Now Silvia's birthday takes an unexpected turn, which means that Rüdiger might soon publish a Third World cookbook...

Mona, a young, attractive woman, shows up at Rüdiger's electronics store. She supposedly knows him from a private party, compliments him and finally persuades him to spend an evening together in a bar, much to the annoyance of Silvia, who immediately smells a celebrity whore in Mona. Rüdiger refuses to believe this and spends a lively evening partying with Mona, during the course of which she confesses to him that she actually likes Rüdiger because he's on TV. But that doesn't stop the fun. Rüdiger is determined to continue seeing Mona. The situation comes to a head when the advertising agency is looking for an attractive woman for a new commercial and Jürgen immediately brings Mona into the picture. Now the Bunzens' house is definitely in trouble. However, Silvia reacts with a surprising new tactic: she tries to take on Mona...

Rüdiger Bunz (Bjarne I. Mädel) finally wants to offer his wife (Christina Große) something and takes her on a trip on a yacht. In the process, they are recognized by fans and proudly pose for a photo. The fun is over the next day, however, when Rüdiger discovers the photo in a newspaper, which raises the question of whether Mr. Bunz has now become more of a big shot as a result of the fame. In order to set the image of the "little man" straight again, Rüdiger sets up a homepage on which he documents his "normal" life. Initially successful, but Silvia is increasingly annoyed because he follows her every move with a camera. When very intimate video footage appears on the Internet, the Bunzens' house is finally in trouble...

Rüdiger's (Bjarne Mädel) father-in-law Werner (Hendrik Arnst) is visiting for a few days. The two men have their difficulties with each other anyway, but now, of all times, colleague and would-be manager Jürgen (Florian Lukas) arranges for a home story in a women's magazine. Rüdiger gets involved in the story, but the journalists' visit doesn't go particularly well. Rüdiger would prefer to keep his father-in-law out of the story, but that doesn't go over well with his wife. So Werner gets involved, much to the delight of the reporters, who make fun of the pensioner from East Germany until Rüdiger's collar bursts...

Jürgen arranges for Rüdiger, without his knowledge, to appear on a political talk show. The topic: "The relationship between East and West Germany. Rüdiger, as the representative of the little man, seems particularly suitable, since his wife comes from Thuringia. Actually, Rüdiger doesn't want to do it, but when he sees that Silvia doesn't really trust him to make such an appearance, his ambition is aroused. In the talk show, however, he then ventures a few daring theses, which cause a lot of public dissent, much to the displeasure of the advertising agency. So Rüdiger has to go to the East for damage control. His apology to the East Germans, however, turns out to be quite different from what everyone involved had imagined...

After Rüdiger Bunz (Bjarne I. Mädel) accidentally makes disparaging remarks about East Germans on a talk show, his public image is pretty tattered. Advertising specialist Lydia (Karoline Eichhorn) and colleague and "manager" Jürgen (Florian Lukas) therefore suggest that he take part in a TV benefit show. Rüdiger initially refuses, but when someone else ends up in hospital due to his fault, he is persuaded to take part. The team around presenter Gülcan Kamps, however, has its own ideas about what the shooting in the hospital should look like...

Mr. Gumprecht (Karl Kranzkowski) is in the hospital and has given Rüdiger (Bjarne I. Mädel) responsibility for the electrical store. Now, of all times, they have the chance to win an important new major customer, which leads to considerable competence wrangling between Jürgen (Florian Lukas) and Rüdiger. At the same time, advertising specialist Lydia (Karoline Eichhorn) plans a campaign in which "The Little Man" campaigns to save the koala bears. This idea is so well received by those in charge that Rüdiger is offered the chance to work full-time for the liquor company. Suddenly Rüdiger has to decide between his old and his new world...
