His former master Stanko arrives at the dam of Palyzá. He wants Palyza to employ his son Michal, who is in prison, at the dam. At first, Palyza refuses, but eventually lets himself be persuaded. At the same time the wife leaves the dam. Stanko becomes an assistant to the old handyman of Šperl. A clumsy old man doesn't get along very well with anyone, neither with his co-workers nor with his daughter-in-law. Palyz's co-worker Jožin Uherčík, an incorrigible dressmaker, meets the charming postwoman Libuška at the station and starts courting her. They will soon become lovers. The Palyzas' marriage is divorced. At the director Rudyšar, Hrázný meets the nice Ivana Opatová and her little daughter Lucinka. When he finds out that Ivana is single, he invites her and her daughter to the dam.
