episode 229 (1x229)

Air date: Apr 24, 2008

Jason Cross of ExtremeTech.com joins Robert on set. • Today's Tech Pic of the Week is from Gregg of Cold Spring Harbor, NY. He has some serious download speed. • Crispin Boyer, Senior Executive Editor for the 1UP Network, reviews Grand Theft Auto 4. • Assistant Producer Sam Arbizo had some quality time with the Neuros OSD. • We have 2 viewer questions today. First question is from Chris of Winter Springs, FL: Here in Florida, the frequent summer rainstorms are so large that they easily block satellite TV reception. Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome this "line of site" problem? I've heard that if you ask really nicely, you can get a 24" dish for slightly better reception. Second question is from J of Cameron, NC: My parents have a rear projection TV with a little screen burn-in from watching too much QVC. Have you heard of the PixelProtector DVD? What do you recommend for a DIY repair kit, if one exists? • We have a Folding@Home update. Team DL.TV has reach the #10 spot. Thank you all for your efforts. There is a new GPU Folding client. Jason Cross was able to take a long look at the client as well as talk to Prof. Vijay Pande about how the client works. Click HERE to read Jason's article and HERE to read the GPU FAQ. • Robert forgot to mention that the latest incarnation of the Ubuntu operating system, v8.04 aka "The Hardy Heron", has been officially released. Desktop and server editions are available in 32 bit and 64 bit flavors. Ubuntu News link The Ubuntu website is being hammered pretty hard with requests for the new OS so here is a page of BitTorrent links for most every version of Ubuntu including Hardy Heron (v8.04). Tip: scroll down to the "hardy-desktop-xxx" or "hardy-dvd-xxx" sections and get your Ubuntu torrent on. • Robert received his DTV converter box coupons in the mail, and its doubtful that he'll even use them (they do expire after a period of time).
