José arrives in La Mancha with the seed of doubt about his paternity sown by Justa. María tries to convince him that he is not his and José tries to get her to return to him, but although he finally leaves, the Andalusian is worried about this unexpected arrival. Ramón vanishes. Dr. Calderón examines him and reminds him of his heart injury and the short time he has left to live; a secret that both have been keeping quiet for a long time. Ramón surprises María and Manuel by giving them some land he has bought, tells them about his ailment and the short time he has left to live. Concha introduces herself to the old man to inform him that her sister Carmen was faithful to him until she died and that Claudia, the bastard girl, is his. José assures all the workers that they will continue to be employed and introduces them to the new caretaker, Justa.
