While we don't make permanent bases on the surface of the Moon and planets, we need to create temporary dwellings in space: like the first explorers set up their huts where prosperous colonies, villages and cities would later spring up. Our high-tech orbital huts started out cramped and limited, but future space stations could become real autonomous orbital cities with hotels, parks, farms and gardens. Or not...
