The beer has been soured by the elves, and Severinsen has to taste the contents of all the jugs. All the townspeople go to the mayor, who thinks it's nonsense. They just need to taste his beer. It's also sour, and everyone thinks it's the barley they bought from him. Severinsen becomes so ill that he only wants to drink water.
