The Biggest Myth in Dances With Wolves (2018x3)

Don't get me wrong, I love Dances With Wolves, and it was pretty revolutionary for its portrayal of Native Americans in a more sympathetic light. However one thing always annoys me about the film which is the overly positive portrayal of the Lakota Sioux. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing because of course John Dunbar is friendly to the Sioux and the film is from his perspective. However this has led to the somewhat misfounded, revisionist view that all the Native Americans had lived on their land for thousands of years and lived in harmony with it, however in the case of the Lakota Sioux this was certainly not the case. The demonetisation of the Pawnee also leaves out the fact that they were native to the plains and were driven out by the invading Lakota Sioux. Anyway, I thought it was a good opportunity to talk about some things.
