ARTE Concert
The Divine Comedy & Tindersticks in Concert at La Philharmonie de Paris (2015x36)
Air date: Feb 15, 2015
After a five-year break, during which singer Stuart Staples retired to his country estate in central France, the Tindersticks celebrated their comeback with "The Hungry Saw", a minimalist-melancholic album full of airy melodies. In 2014 she released "Across Six Leap Years", a compilation of her most beautiful songs in fresh arrangements, recorded in the famous Abbey Road Studios. In the Paris Philharmonic, Stuart Staples plunged the audience into a very special, soft-hypnotic atmosphere with his velvety voice, the Nottingham band's trademark.
The Divine Comedy make elegant Baroque pop, reminiscent of the British 60s rock. Behind the band is Neil Hannon, who prefers to perform his daring compositions with a dandified phlegm and a veiled voice. The influences of Northern Ireland include Burt Bacharach, David Bowie and Jacques Brel; his love of French culture led to numerous projects with artists such as Yann Thiersen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Air and Vincent Delerm. After ten albums and a couple of solo experiments, Neil Hannon now stood on the stage of the Paris Philharmonic with his newly united band.
