Heimat 2: Chronicle of a Generation

Enraged by his family's disapproval of his romance with Klärchen, Hermann vows to never fall in love again and to leave the Hunsrück forever in order to devote himself to music.

Juan remains in Munich, even though he failed to secure a place at the Conservatoire. He finds a home for his many talents at the Von Zett Drama School, thanks to a suggestion from Hermann. In the need for quick cash they agree to play a birthday party for a rich art dealer in the suburbs.

After Evelyne's father dies suddenly at the age of forty-two, she discovers that her biological mother is not the woman she thought she was. Feeling no-longer at home in Neuberg, she leaves for Munich in the hope of joining the Conservatoire and finding out more about her real mother.

Hermann recounts the tragic life and loves of Angsar.

Helga states that Corpus Christi Day, 1962 is a day that she will never forget.

Alex wakes up on 22 November 1963, a day he'll never forget. Throughout the day, he attempts to scrounge from his friends, but none have the time or the money to help him.

It has been eleven days since Clarissa's abortion and her tendonitis has flared up again.

It is New Year's Eve, 1963 and Waltraud spends Christmas at home in Hunsrück. She is emotionally proud to be home and with her family. When asked if there is a man in her life, she only hints at it. Waltraud will leave the next day for Munich.

Elisabeth has allowed Juan to stay with her at the Foxholes, where he keeps himself occupied laying a mosaic of an Inca god in the garden.

Reinhard returns from from Mexico, where he shot his latest documentary.

Clarissa has been thrown off course. She has given up playing the cello and is drowning in the everyday life of housework. Hermann discovers in a newspaper that his piece of music won a prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He goes to see Consul Handschuh, the head of the film production company responsible, and learns that they have big plans for him there.

1968: Clarissa joins an American group of musicians. Schnüsschen is caught up in the political wave and reads Fromm, Marcuse, Adorno, Marx and Mao Tse Tung. She has given up her job as an employee, is studying sociology and works in drug counseling. She hardly sees her husband Hermann, in whom Consul Glove has unlimited trust. There is a big row and Hermann disappears to Berlin.

It's Oktoberfest in Munich. Hermann's success leads to such a close relationship with his boss and sponsor that he asks to adopt him. Hermann asks for time to think about it. He is already at a loss enough when it comes to his current and future career. Almost all his former friends are gone.
