The end of the 80s. Classmates from Kaliningrad celebrate graduation from school on the Curonian Spit. Among them are Kostya Levshin, Grigory Vasiliev, nicknamed Vasilek, Misha Boyko and lovers Sergey Zvyagintsev and Masha Koroleva. Kostya cuts out for everyone on the amber charm medallion, Sergey and Masha exchange them ... Sergey goes to Moscow to enter the Moscow State University, gets acquainted with fellow student Tanya and spends the night with her. The next day, Tanya calls Masha in Kaliningrad and tells her about it.

Having passed the exams, Sergey goes to Kaliningrad to see Masha, but she doesn’t want to see him anymore and breaks off the relationship. Masha works at the "Yantar" plant. By chance, she learns that the master of the shift Filippenko puts stolen amber into her purse and sells it alongside with her mother. The unspoken master of the city, the bandit Konetskiy, takes Filippenko and Masha's family under his control ... While playing the gymnastic element, Vasilek suffers a serious spinal injury. In Moscow, Sergey receives the news that Tanya is pregnant. Kostya, who entered the Surikov Institute, falls into disfavor with the influential parents of his bride, Lena.

Tanya gives birth to a son of Sergei. A personal exhibition of Kostya’s paintings opens in Moscow. A serious buyer appears to be interested in paintings. Doctors are fighting for the life of Misha, who was wounded in Nagorno-Karabakh. Vasilek, with the help of Tanya, is undergoing rehabilitation at a Moscow hospital. Despite all the obstacles, the guys play three weddings in one day: Sergey with Tanya, Kostya with Lena and Vasilek with Olga. In Kaliningrad, Konetsky doesn't give a pass to Masha. She, more than ever, is glad that Misha has returned from the army. Konetsky does not leave them alone, and Masha asks for protection from Sergey's father ...
