Theme Notes Series 276: Put On Your Hat (Monday)
This week in Play School we explore the theme of “Put on Your Hat” through music, stories, craft and play. Every day this week, we visit the Play School hat shop where a hat for every occasion can be found. On Wednesday, we take a special ride with Justine as she puts on a helmet and travels to Play School on a motorbike.
Hats can also be used in dress-up and role play for young children to explore different occupations and cultural differences. The role of hats in sun protection and warmth is also featured.

This week in Play School we explore the theme of “Put on Your Hat” through music, stories, craft and play. Every day this week, we visit the Play School hat shop where a hat for every occasion can be found. - Visit a fire station. What colour are the fire fighter’s hats? Where do they keep their hats?

- Set up a shop that sells sports hats. Your shop could include a cricket hat, a motor cycle helmet and a life savers cap. Have fun selling your hats to customers. They may come into the shop and say, “I need a hat to wear while I’m playing the cricket. What will be the best hat?”
- Build some sandcastles in a sandpit or at the beach. Decorate them with leaves and pebbles from the garden. Put a flag on the top.
- Take a ride on a pretend motorbike with an ice cream helmet.
- Find pictures of people wearing different hats in old magazines and make a collage.

How to Make a Pop Painting
You will need:
- Broom handle or long cardboard cylinder
- Two chairs
- Dust sheets or newspaper to cover the floor and chairs Apron or large paint shirt
- Balloons
- String
- Powder paint
- Glitter

- Large sheets of butchers paper
- Glue paste
Cover your work area with newspaper or a dust sheet. Set two chairs on the covered work area, about a metre apart. Cover with newspaper or dust sheets.
