The start of the new school term is marred by the aftermath of Nick's death [from a brain haemorrhage which occurred coincidentally with his appearance in the boxing ring]. Vic Morris, a teacher brought in to teach a new Media Studies course, gets everyone to participate in a special video project. A new student with a familial link to Deloraine arrives at Hartley. Nick's little sister, Effie, begins attending classes at Hartley. New arrival Matt is uncomfortable about having to interview his classmates.

They set out to convince a reluctant Vic to be their coach but convincing Rivers to join the team isn't quite as hard. Matt's friends have questions for him — and demands — after Southgate reveals he is Deloraine's nephew.
