Fleadh Cheoil

The first programme in this new six part series from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which was back in Sligo for a second year is presented by John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin. The programme features the groups Danú and Boys of the Lough, the well known Mulcahy Family from Abbeyfeale, and American musicians Dylan Foley, Meave Flanagan, Erin Loughran and Séagda Coyle.

We join the many thousands of visitors to Sligo for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann with presenters John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin. Included in this week’s programme are Sligo groups The Unwanted and LOKI and we visit the Fleadh’s teaching wing Scoil Eigse.

The annual Fleadh Cheoil being staged in Sligo for the second year running has become one of the largest music festivals in Europe. This week’s programme features tunes from the group Trí Tones.

More music and singing from Fleadh Cheoil in the company of John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin. Included in this weeks programme are, West Kerry Box player Seamus Begley with Óisín Mac Diarmada on fiddle and Michael McCague on guitar, Cork singer John Spillane and we look in at the excitement from The Senior Ceili Band Competition.

John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin mix with the thousands of musicians and followers at the Fleadh Cheoil in Sligo. Featured in this week’s episode are the Sliabh Luachra group Seven Glens, Matt Cunningham and family and American fiddle player Dylan Foley with Daithí Gormley on box and John McCartin on guitar.

The final programme in the series from the Sligo Fleadh Cheoil features banjo player Kieran Hanrahan along Sligo man Oisín MacDiarmada on fiddle and harpist Michael Rooney and we look in at the Tutors Concert from the Fleadh’s Summer School Scoil Eigse and finish with The Senior All Ireland Céilí Band Champions, the Shandrum Céilí Band. The programme is presented by John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin.
