In this video, we’ll look at how a tiny detail caused the deadliest aviation disaster to occur in the Netherlands – with more victims on the ground than in the air. 30 years after this plane crash, some people are still wondering about what really happened in its aftermath. It was around 2:40 pm on October 4, 1992 when El Al Flight 1862, a Boeing 747 cargo aircraft, made a stopover at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The 13-year-old aircraft was owned by El Al, a then state-owned Israeli airline famous for its nearly flawless safety record ever since its beginnings back in 1949. In Hebrew, El Al means “to the skies”, a name that would be put to test on that particular day.
