Mortelle mélodie, makes us discover a facet of Judge Mongeville hitherto only interviewed: his taste for music, especially for voices. It is during a concert he attends in a Bordeaux church that the tragedy occurs: the choir director succumbs to a heart attack. For Mongeville, it was a suspicious death. But he is the only one who believes it! Leading a very unofficial investigation, he ends up uncovering secrets that could hide a perfect murder... But it is at this moment that Valentine, a young Captain of Police who is also determined to bring out the truth, intervenes. She is funny, clever, full of life... And they will have to get to know each other to work well together. Judge Mongeville receives a cry for help from Jeanne Marsac, a childhood friend whose husband died under strange circumstances. The police are conducting the investigation under the leadership of Captain Valentine Duteil, whom the judge knows well. Jeanne invites Mongeville to the magnificent property where she lives with her two sons, her two daughters-in-law and her grandson... Their reunion is moving. In the past, they had lived a great and beautiful love story. And then life separated them, and Jeanne married Pierre Marsac who proved to be a tough and authoritarian man. Besides, his death does not trouble anyone in the family. Everything seems to prove that the culprit is a relative. With the help of the funny and sympathetic Captain Valentine Duteil, Mongeville leads the investigation, revealing more or less shameful secrets, resentments, jealousies.

The body of a young woman was found in a car wreck and everything suggests that the murderer is not at his first attempt. Judge Mongeville and Captain Valentine Duteil start the investigation: Mongeville feels that this case is more serious than it seems. Indeed, the woman was killed in the same circumstances as another victim seven years ago. At the time Mongeville was in charge of the file and he had exonerated a certain Jacques Charpentier. Released, he had left Bordeaux and the real murderer had never been found. But Charpentier has just returned to Bordeaux to get married! The police interrogated him and it turned out that Charpentier had no solid alibi. Worse, his attitude seems offbeat, strange... Apart from Mongeville, everyone wonders if Charpentier would not finally be the murderer! But that means Mongeville was wrong seven years ago... Consumed by uncertainty, he decided to start the investigation from scratch.
