The Practice (1976)

Arthur Jarvis, a pal of Dr. Jules, is given a terminal diagnosis and seems accepting of his future. Dr. Jules is not and insists on ordering extra tests that the physician hopes will have a brighter outlook.

Barbara Sims is extremely depressed because her husband recently left her. Jules treats Barbara for a thyroid condition and because of his care she imagines a romantic future. Jules must tell Barbara the truth but gently.

A new chief of internal medicine is being chosen with Dr. David and the more relaxed, rumpled Dr. Chisolm as candidates. Dr. Jules has a vote and causes dissension when he doesn't pick his son.

Dr. Jules is worried he'll lose his long time nurse Molly when she starts dating Jim, a patient. Jules, against advice, interferes in Molly's love life to her annoyance.

A known drug dealer Frankie is a patient of Dr. Jules and needs an operation. Jules intends to perform the surgery until his nurse Molly, son David, and daughter-in-law Jenny object, putting Jules in a difficult position.

Molly is experiencing intense stomach pain but chooses to go to Dr. David because she doesn't want Jules being unduly concerned. But when something is found that might be malignant, the staff supports Molly while waiting for the final results.

Dr. Jules is stunned when his office is vandalized and things destroyed. Jules has inadequate insurance to replace his equipment and wonders how he'll practice medicine.

Jules reluctantly goes on long deferred vacation at the urging of family and staff. But once installed in his Florida hotel room Jules can't resist turning it into a place to offer medical advice.

Dr. Jules meddles in a disagreement between his old friend and the man's son. The doctor's advice is unappreciated and Jules is in danger of losing one his close pal.

After Molly accidentally gives an overdose of an allergy drug to a hypochondriac she decides to quit. Dr. Jules doesn't know how he'll get along without his longtime nurse and friend.

Jenny has had enough when Jules gives his opinion again on how she is raising her sons. She tries to set guidelines for her father-in-law on offering unwanted advice concerning his grandsons.

Jules meets a young man Eddie and they hit it off. But Eddie has a problem in needing a place to to live and believes he and the doctor would be great roommates. Dr. Jules knows with his hours it's not realistic.

A robbery wipes out Dr. Jules and his son offers him a loan which the dad is reluctant to take. After being talked into it Jules agrees to accept the money only to learn David has withdrawn the offer. Tempers flare as a result.
