Odd Man Out (1977)

Fish and chip show owner Neville Sutcliffe inherits half of his deceased father's stick-rock factory in Sussex. He arrives to face a cool welcome from his step-sister Dorothy, who now owns the other half of the business.

When the factory runs into financial problems, Neville hopes to secure an overdraft. But Dorothy has her own plan - to marry him into money.

Neville decides that the factory needs some publicity; and organises a cross-Channel relay swim with the staff. When he learns they all sink better than they swim, he alone has to keep the scheme afloat...

Neville and Dorothy are invited to a dinner dance - posing a couple of problems. For a start, they have no-one to go with; and Neville can't dance, anyway. While an escort agency supplies the partners, Wilf comes to Neville's aid with a dance routine - a tricky little number called the 'Odd Step'...

To improve worker-management relations, Neville becomes the factory's welfare officer. But when Sandra, an employee's friend, leaves her child hidden in the factory when she goes for an interview, Neville is left holding the baby!

Neville finds his father's old car in the factory garage, full of Dad's old memories: stockings, corsets and assorted knickers. Dorothy tries to teach him to drive, with some smashing results.

Its time the factory made some money, and Neville is keen to break into Europe. Frog's legs and Eiffel Towers made of sweet rock will surely prove popular in the Common Market...
