During the festival of Castelmarciano a girl named Laura disappears; the head policeman of the local barracks, Andrea, goes in search of her. After several interviews with Max, Nico and his son Matteo (Laura's last boyfriend), an anonymous phone call leads the policeman to the cliff on which there are traces of blood. A few hours later, the girl's body is found by Andrea himself, who then meets Luisa, from the Trieste homicide section, with whom he tries to discover the motive for Laura's murder. The autopsy report of the girl reveals traces of cocaine in the victim's body; Laura, however, died from numerous belly kicks... and was pregnant. Andrea and Luisa discover that it was Max who bought Laura's pregnancy test. The boy, however, denies him having a relationship with the victim and indeed reveals to Luisa who, on the night of the murder, made the anonymous phone call to the police: Matteo.

Matteo, Andrea's son, denies being involved in Laura's disappearance, but Luisa wants both he and Max to do the DNA test to compare with the police-owned artifacts. Meanwhile, what does Nico and Franco hide on the latter's boat, and why is don Carlo in possession of a video message shot by the girl and clearly addressed to him? Shortly thereafter, the DNA tests result arrives and undoubtedly reveals an involvement of Matteo, who has a strong emotional reaction that causes Andrea's anguish, dramatically caught between the role of father and that of policeman. Even if a mysterious past continues to torment her, Luisa continues with determination the investigations, which lead her to make an unexpected discovery about Max. The investigations therefore seem to find new paths, when even Andrea makes a completely surprising discovery.

The discovery that Franco is having a relationship with Anna attracts a series of consequences and suspicions, including the discovery that he may have met Laura on the day she disappeared casts an even stronger suspicion on him. Matteo tries to discover the reason for the increasingly frequent meetings between Grazia and don Carlo, who has become her only confidant. Nico becomes a precious informant and helps Luisa and Andrea to reconstruct Franco's movements, who seems to have had more than one motive for Laura's death. Wounded to death by Andrea, Franco tells Anna that he didn't kill Laura. Has he told the truth? Meanwhile Paolo, who is the direct superior of Luisa and her ex, arrives in the village and ousts Andrea from the investigation to investigate his son Matteo; a pair of boy's shoes is stained with blood. Meanwhile, suspicions also fall on don Carlo: at first he had been seen in the company of Laura, and now also of Grazia. Andrea believes in the innocence of his priest friend, but the finding of a video message from Laura crumbles this certainty.
