The archaeologist Jack Wilder had to experience how his best friend was killed in a mining accident. To thank him for his friendship, his mother presented him with a mysterious old book that turned out to be part of a map to El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. During the rescue from the Peruvian army, there is an unexpected reunion with Jack Wilder's ex-lover Maria.
