Bhí Mé Ann

The first in the series – ‘Na Páistí’ hears how children growing up during the conflict in the North of Ireland coped with every day life, going to school, playing outside, just doing what children do. For chidren in the Troubles the ordinary and everyday was mixed with bombs, bullets and the threat of violence. “Bhí Mé Ann” brings you their stories.

The second programme in the series “Bhí mé ann” recounts the experiences of those who worked in the media, gathering & reporting the News. Often the first on the scene they were faced with the unedited horror of the conflict and in doing their job they often found themselves in danger.

In the third programme in the series – ‘Na Seirbhísí’ we hear how those working on the frontline services in our hospitals, the Firefighters and the soldiers on our streets survived. Evocative sounds and memories. Even the Ice Cream Van negotiated the troubled geography of the North.

Exploring the lives of teachers during the conflict in Northern Ireland, with those who taught through the Troubles explaining how they tried to create sanctuaries within their schools, for children who were often anxious and frightened during the fighting

In the fifth programme of “Bhí mé ann” we hear stories from the women who had to stand tall amongst the bombs, bullets and raids on their homes throughout the conflict in the North of Ireland. How they protected their children, their homes and themselves with all that was happening around them.
