When it comes to martial arts movies, it can be tough to blend fighting with comedy. Jackie Chan is considered a master at this. But other martial arts stars of the 70s, 80s and 90s aren’t primarily known for their humor. We’re talking about Bruce Lee, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal and others. At the same time, the 80s demonstrated an appetite for the martial arts centered, family friendly film (see Karate Kid). There’s been a stealth, Batman: The Animated Series spinoff that’s been out in the world for over 25 years now. You probably didn’t know it was developed by Steven Spielburg and created by Bruce Time and Paul Dini. It’s Batman: The Animated Series (minus everything Batman) combined with the zaniness of the Earthworm Jim series. It was random, it was hilarious and it had a super groovy and jazzy opening theme song. That’s right, we’re talking about FREAKAZOID. But how is this a B:TAS spinoff? Find out all that and more as we dive into this Kids WB classic.

There’s a whole lot of kids cartoons from the 80s and 90s that are very similar to previous and popular shows. Mask and Transformers. Big Bad Beetleborgs and Power Rangers. Then there’s those shows that are super similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We’ve already covered Street Sharks and SWAT Kats in previous episodes, but today, we’re talking about BIKER MICE FROM MARS. More humanoid animals kicking ass and cracking jokes.

Power Rangers fans had it so good in the 90’s that we even got some awesome Power Rangers copy cat shows. Big Bad Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, Masked Rider - those are just a few. But today, we’re talking about one of the most 90’s ones ever, the one with the world’s longest and most ridiculous title - TATTOOED TEENAGE ALIEN FIGHTERS FROM BEVERLY HILLS

When Roland Emmerich’s 1998 Godzilla movie was announced, expectations were HIGH. Finally, Hollywood was taking a crack at the king of all monsters and technology had advanced enough that it could bring the king to life in an unprecedented way. But the movie came out and it wasn’t exactly a hit with fans. The 2 planned sequels were canned but a cartoon was made in conjunction with the movie - GODZILLA: THE SERIES. And this one turned out great. Don’t believe us? We’ll explain.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is 31 years old and a new sequel, “Bill and Ted Face the Music” hits theaters or VOD or...somewhere soon. Like the movie, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures completely disregards the rules of time travel and messes with important historical figures with zero repercussions. Justice League is notable for a lot of things. It was a mature show that young fans could nevertheless fully engage with, it went deep on its stories with its double episode format, and most importantly, it did justice -- wink wink -- to some of comics’ greatest and most well known characters while also boosting the profile and visibility of other deeper cut heroes.

If you’re making a list of the most successful kids shows of all time, Bobby’s World has to be on there. It premiered in 1990 and ran almost for a whole decade, ending in 1998. Why was it so successful? It was about a normal little kid and how he blows little things way out of proportion. It was a show about nothing, really. You could argue that MTV Spider-Man never had a fair shot at becoming iconic -- MTV didn’t even air the episodes in the right order! -- but when you go back and rewatch, you’ll find that the stories are complex and have a rock solid comics pedigree along with a willingness to take risks.
