Father Paisios gives his fight, as a monk now, in the Philotheu Monastery, on Mount Athos. His mother also fights her own "battle", as she tries to reconcile her deep faith in God and her love for her son. In father Paisios, the desire to go to the most desolate part of Mount Athos, to Katounakia, and to become an ascetic is growing. A vision of the Virgin, however, leads him back to Konitsa, to Stomio Monastery, to renovate the monastery burned by the Germans. Thus, in July 1958, he returns to Konitsa and without passing through his house he goes directly to the monastery.
With the help of the inhabitants of Konitsa, Father Paisios begins to rebuild the monastery. He decides to go to Corfu and collect the relics of Saint Arsenios. So, he visits his house

So, he visits his house and asks his parents and siblings to tell him if they had put any sign, so he could find the tomb of the Saint. His mother remembers that when they arrived in Corfu, refugees, Saint Arsenius had said to Paisius, when he was an infant, "my son, here you will leave me and from here you will come to take me." Now what the Saint said is happening, for this and his grace will lead him to his grave

Father Paisios arrives at Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai. The monks of the Monastery offer him a small cell in the desert, where he begins to practice asceticism under very harsh conditions, while the attacks of Temptation are a daily occurrence. Despite his fragile health, Father Paisios devotes himself to spiritual discipline. His mother has accepted her son’s decision to become a monk in the desert and prays to the Virgin Mary to watch over him. However, while she is praying, she peacefully passes away.

Father Paisios’s deteriorating health forces him to leave Sinai and return to Mount Athos. There, he meets Father Tychon and asks him to become his spiritual guide. A new spiritual struggle begins. Some young monks gather around him and beg him to accompany them as their spiritual father.
Father Paisios’s health declines significantly, and he is forced to leave Mount Athos to see doctors in Thessaloniki. There, he meets Father Polycarpos, who offers to help him. Father Polycarpos introduces him to his spiritual daughters, who wish to become nuns. With great love and discernment, Elder Paisios helps them, and a spiritual bond begins to form between them.
The elder undergoes surgery, during which half of his lung is removed. Despite his own suffering, he does not forget the pain of others. Many people find comfort in the hospital near Father Paisios.
