To the great surprise of all, Maria and Maximilian of the couple become lovers. The political necessity becomes a deep love relationship. As the Duke of Burgundy, Maximilian has to make tough choices, even when affecting his closest friends. France lurks on a weakness to incorporate Burgundy. Maximilian is pushing for a decision on the battlefield. When everything seems to turn out to be the best, fate once again turns tragic.
