Walter Leland Cronkite Jr. was a lifelong newsman who became the voice of the truth for America as a nighttime anchorman. During his distinguished career, Cronkite won numerous awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award twice, several Emmy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1981.
