Fishermen, posh ladies and influencers get excited about it: pearls. Beautiful splendor, given to us by the oyster. But it's strange: while only one in about a thousand oysters yields a pearl, you stumble over them in the shopping street and in web shops. Shiny balls in all shapes and sizes. From a few cents per earring to thousands of euros for a necklace. So many pearls, such exceptionally rare wonders of nature. How is that possible?
