The 1989 MTV VMAs, hosted by Arsenio Hall at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Performances by Madonna, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, The Cult, Cher, the Rolling Stones, and the Cure, with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora notably giving an acoustic performance. Other artists who performed included Living Colour, which took home three awards, and Paula Abdul, the night's biggest winner with four awards, along with an acoustic performance by Tom Petty with Guns N' Roses.
