DI Steph Radcliffe of MIT is seconded to Sun Hill to investigate the death of Tom Parker. Fern initially pleads self-defence, claiming Tom was about to attack her. However, under interrogation, she cracks and reveals that she murdered Tom out of rage, and that Webb coached her to plead self-defence - forcing Meadows to defend Webb under the scrutiny of MIT. Meanwhile, Kapoor and Bryant investigate an assault on a local pensioner. They soon discover that a motive of racial abuse may be behind the assault, but discover that the man was diagnosed with Alzheimer's some months previously. Bryant decides to accept a position with the Safer Neighbourhood team at Barton Street.
