Padma, a young Gandhian, seeks Dr. Chalapathi's help to treat her injured comrade. What follows is an intense debate between someone under the Nizam's patronage and a freedom fighter.

Badri, a revolutionary, arrives at blacksmith Mallesh's doorstep to collect weapons. As the night progresses so does the argument over the virtues of violence and non-violence.

Badri is about to be hung, and Dr. Chalapathi performs the last check-up. While the revolutionary is ready to die for the country, the doctor tries to deconstruct his motivations.

Mallesh seeks refuge in a temple escaping from the police who beat up his fellow Gandhians. Soon he's joined by Satyanarayana who led the police attack.

The Indian Army has taken over Hyderabad. Mallesh and Chalapathi finally find Anwar, who is bitter about the amalgamation of the state into India.

Ahmed, a politician, meets Anwar to seek support from the Nizam for the newly-formed Muslim League. However, Anwar is sceptical about the party's role in India's future.
