The clues are few and tenuous and Scotland Yard gropes in the dark. But Holmes's specialty is precisely that of relying on elements that can appear to be absolutely insignificant to others: and the exorbitant price of a glass of sherry is the key element on which the investigator will base his chain of deductions.
