Stalingrad (2015)

In June 1941, Nazi armies invade the USSR. General Zhukov stops their advance at Stalingrad and Moscow. Hitler now advances on the Caucasus, and the rich oil fields in the region, but the prize of Stalingrad is irresistable. In just a few days, Stalingrad has been 80% destroyed but Stalin decides not to evacuate it. The order is unequivocal: not one step backwards.

November 1942. The Russians and Germans are exhausted. General Chuikov holds out against the bombing and shelling. Constantly under fire, Stalingrad can only be resupplied by crossing the Volga. The Germans consider the Russians as rats, but the heroism and cunning of these rats enables them to resist and survive.

Stalin has now given his generals, Zhukov and Vasilevsky, a free hand in organising the defence of Stalingrad. They plan a huge counter offensive; Operation Uranus. On 22 November, the Soviets outflank and encircle encircle the Germans and their Romanian and Italian allies in 'the pocket'. The boot is now on the other foot, and Russia has the upper hand.
