North Rhine-Westphalia - a young country with a long tradition. Often we are no longer aware of where we are on historical grounds everywhere, and where the places have their distinctive appearance. Modern city centers stand on ancient foundations, green belts lie on medieval ramparts; Bike paths follow the paths of former industrial railways. From a lofty height, "NRW von oben" casts a slightly different view of the settlement of city and countryside. A view that reveals how our cities have grown over the centuries, which ancient routes our roads follow, and fateful encounters took place in many a field.
